Choose or Switch Your Active Company

Confirm the company shown in the sidebar before you begin work, and switch the active company when you need a different data context.

Purpose

Use this workflow when you need to confirm you are working in the right company before reviewing data, entering transactions, or running reports.

Prerequisites

  • You are signed in to SPRK.
  • At least one company exists in the workspace.

Steps

  1. Look at the company selector at the top of the left sidebar.
  2. Confirm the displayed company name matches the company you intend to use.
  3. If the wrong company is active, open the company selector and choose the correct company.
  4. If you need to manage companies in more detail, open Companies from the System section.
  5. After switching, verify the sidebar now shows the intended company before you continue.

Expected Result

The selected company becomes the active context for dashboard values, search results, reports, and transaction workflows across the app. Current general ledger impact as of 2026-05-04:

  • Switching the active company does not create, edit, or delete a journal entry.
  • Company selection changes which company data you are viewing and where future transactions would be recorded.

Common Mistakes

  • Starting work without checking the company name in the sidebar.
  • Treating company selection as a page-level filter instead of an app-wide context.
  • Assuming switching companies moves transactions between companies. It only changes the active workspace context.
